On Friday afternoon, Mackenzie
Martel was announced student of the month for September by the Bowie principal,
Mr. Kane, at the courtyard.
Mackenzie
maintains a 4.0 GPA.
“I make straight A’s,” said Martel.
“At the beginning of high school, I was caught off guard because it was so
intense, but I soon learned the effort I needed to put in to make good grades.”
Mackenzie wants to attend Rice
University.
“My motivation to make good grades
is I hope to attend a good school on a full scholarship,” said Martel.
In addition to her schoolwork, she
also swims on the Bowie Varsity swim team.
“I’ve been swimming since I was 5,
I love it, and it’s a great stress reliever,” said Mackenzie.
Martel received this award as a
freshman, and now as a sophomore. She has received this award for the second
time now.
“I haven’t received any negative
comments from receiving this for the second time,” said Mackenzie. “I don’t
have many friends, because I focus on my school work.”
Mackenzie takes 4 AP classes,
Calculus, English, Biology, and US History.
“My classes are hard, but I still
work very hard in them because I know the grades will pay off,” said Martel. “Things
at home are tough so I need to make good grades in order to receive a full
scholarship.”
Mackenzie is part of numerous extra
curricular activities at school.
“I am part of Chess club, Yearbook,
and Science Olympiad,” said Martel. “I love participating in different clubs
and meeting different people.”
Mackenzie hopes for others to receive
this amazing award.
“Tips I have for other students are
to study and work hard.”
