The Camera

1.Explain the "camera obscura" effect. How is it achieved?
It was the first camera. There was a hole which acted like a lens that focused and projected light onto the wall of a dark chamber.
2. What invention during the 17th century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?
Issac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected their understanding of optics and the process of making high quality class lenses.
3. What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?
A glass lens, a dark box, and film.
4. What do modern digital cameras have in common with Niepce's camera?
Light passes through the lens into the camera, and exposes the film.
5. What do digital camera's use to capture an image?
They capture images with an electronic sensor called an CCD.
6. What is the difference between the auto mode and the program mode?
On auto mode the camera controls flash and exposure and on program mode you can control the flash and a few other settings.
7. What is the portrait mode used for? How does it work?
It is used to blur out the background by the camera using the fastest available lens setting.
8. What is the sports mode used for? How does it work?
It is used to freeze motion by using the highest shutter speed possible.
9.Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?
It helps focus in on the subject better and keep that focus.
10. What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
It means no flash. You would use this when you want to make the photograph more dramatic by using natural light.
11. What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
Its enabled by default and will use the flash automatically if the camera thinks it needs more light.
12. What happens to your photo if there is too much light?
The picture will be washed out.
13.What happens to your photo if there is not enough light?
The picture will be too dark
14.What is a stop?
A relative change in the brightness of light.
15. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are 2 suns instead of 1?
1 stop brighter
16. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are 4 suns instead of 2?
2 stops brighter
17.What effect does a longer shutter of speed have?
more light
18. What effect does a shorter shutter speed have?
less light
19. What does the aperture control?
It controls the F stops.
20. When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of light?
You change the F stops which controls the openings, which controls the amount of light let in.
